What to Expect at Your Newborn Session

Newborn photography is a beautiful way to capture the pure innocence and delicate features of a newborn. As a photographer, it is essential to know how to pose a newborn safely and comfortably. In this post, we will discuss some of my best newborn photography posing tips and what you can expect at your newborn session.

  1. Keep the baby comfortable and warm

Newborns are delicate and can easily get cold. It is essential to keep them warm and comfortable throughout the session. We make sure that the room is warm and cozy, and have plenty of blankets and wraps on hand to wrap the baby in. We also use a small space heater to blow warm air whenever the baby is being posed without wraps or clothes.

  1. Use props and accessories

Using props and accessories can add some fun and personality to your newborn photos. However, it is essential to keep in mind that safety comes first. We always choose props that are safe for newborns, and make sure they are secure and stable before placing the baby in or on them. Additionally, we work with an assistant to keep a hand on the baby as we are photographing them in props. We have featured many props for you to select from in our newborn portfolio.

  1. Keep the poses simple

Newborns are not able to hold complex poses, so it is best to keep the poses simple and natural. A few classic poses that are easy and safe include the “froggy” pose, the “side lying” pose, and the “bum up” pose. We always make sure the baby’s neck and head are supported, and do not force the baby into any poses that may be uncomfortable or dangerous. At the end of the day, the baby is in charge!

  1. Incorporate family members

Incorporating family members into the photos is a great way to capture the love and bond between them and the baby. This can include parents, siblings, grandparents, and even pets. We make sure to get a variety of poses and angles, and capture candid moments that showcase the family’s personalities.

  1. Be patient and flexible

Newborns can be unpredictable, and it is essential to be patient and flexible during the session. Your session can take up to three hours because we take breaks as needed and allow plenty of time for feeding and changing.

By following these tips, we create beautiful and timeless photos that capture the precious moments of a newborn’s life and their family.
