Prepare for your newborn photography session
- Book early. Book your session at least 2 months in advance. Sometimes babies have a plan of their own and arrive early. You do not want to be scrabbling to find a photographer after the baby has arrived and possibly miss out on booking your favorite photographer.
- Prepare the baby. Make sure the baby is well fed before leaving your home. A well fed baby sleeps better during their session.
- Bring the essentials. Make sure you bring a pacifier, bottle of milk (expressed milk or formula) receiving blankets and burp cloths. Photographers need several methods of soothing the baby during posing.
- Dress for success. Babies are typically posed in their birthday suits. Dress baby in loose fitting clothes that are easy to remove. Button up sleepers are best.
- Self care. Newborn sessions can last 3 hours. Make sure you bring a snack for yourself and dress in comfortable clothing. Photographers keep their studios very warm to keep babies comfortable but that can sometimes be too warm for moms.
